Artist Statement
I create collections of objects, text and image to build or represent systems that are used to organize and understand information. As an artist, I strive to combine many fields of knowledge, such as, science, math, history and anthropology, in my research and draw on them, not as facts but as questions. These questions help me to start conversations in order to dissect the infrastructure tied to aspects of everyday life, such as transportation, health and food distribution, that are based on metrics but are informed by history, politics, and culture. I use ceramics and print-media to work through my own understanding, using their history and tradition to capture a poetic revelation of the current contemporary human condition. By creating an archive of the systems that surround our life, I hope to look at them with a sense of curiosity and questioning and invoke that feeling of wanting to understand further in others.
